Matt started playing table tennis at 9 years old, at the age of 12 he reached his first U13 English national final. As a result of this performance he was selected to represent England at the 6 nations in Holland. He continued to progress and reached 2 more national finals both in U15 and U18 age categories. He was also U16 British Schools and U18 National mixed doubles champion.

Matt has represented England in two European Youth Championships as a cadet and junior in Bosnia and Italy. At the age of 16 Matt decided to move abroad to raise his game, he lived and trained out in Sweden for a year to improve his skills and to become stronger mentally and physically. On his return he reached the quarter final of the Senior National Championships in where he defeated the English ranked 3 player in the last 16 stage at only 17 years old.

At the age of 18 Matt travelled to Germany to play in the Regionaliga, he continued playing in this league for a further 3 more seasons with two different clubs. Matt’s first England senior debut was at the English open, he then went onto play many more open events for his country in Austria, Luxembourg and Finland to name a few.

At the age of 19 Matt became crowned British Under 21 Grand Prix Champion, he also played a season in the Belgium division 1 league where he was unbeaten.

At the age of 22 Matt suffered an injury on his knee and had to have two operations. As a result of this, his professional Table Tennis career took a back seat and his coaching career began.

Matt’s latest achievements have notably been winning the UK Closed Ping Pong Championships and reaching the Last 16 of the World Championships of Ping Pong held live on Sky Sports at the iconic Alexandra Palace in London.

Matt is now a full time Table Tennis Coach and also plays in the Premier British League for Northern Irish team Ormeau.
